Naval combat as a chain of readable decisions
Many pirate games move their deepest systems onto land. Beyond the Chart stays aboard the vessel. Enemy intent is visible before the next exchange, so the interesting question is whether to maximize damage now, protect the hull, prepare a stronger broadside or accept risk to preserve resources for the route ahead.
Command cards provide timing and constraint. A cannon is not useful merely because it is installed; your deck, crew and current draw determine when that weapon can become part of a coherent turn.
